For amateur ice hockey teams

Ice time costs a fortune. Don't waste it on a short bench.

Know by midweek whether you've got the skaters for two lines and someone willing to go in net, long before the ice is resurfaced.

Everything in Pro for 14 days. No card needed. Runs in any browser, phone included.

Three periods. Plus the admin.

A hockey game is sixty minutes on the clock and a week of messages around it. Here's the week, the hockey way.

1ST PERIOD

Count the skaters

Ten skaters and a goalie, or a scramble? The answers come in by Wednesday, not in the car park.

2ND PERIOD

Set the lines

Defence pairs, wingers either side of the centre, who starts in goal. Everyone knows their line before the warm-up.

3RD PERIOD

Get it on the sheet

The final score, then the points and the saves, entered before the beers go flat.

OVERTIME

Your goalie's got the flu

The goalie schedule shows which games have someone in net, and fill-ins find a stand-in who's looking for ice time.

My Stats for an ice hockey player: 9 games, 14 P, 2 G, 12 A, plus/minus 12, 26 SOG and 37 shots
Plus, minus and the rest

A goalie's night isn't measured in goals.

Skaters get points, plus/minus, faceoffs and the hits nobody else counted. Goalies get saves and save percentage. Two different jobs, two different records.

Hat tricks deserve a record.

Hockey-only moments, from the hat trick to the goalie goal nobody in the club will let you forget, plus first goals, games played and scoring streaks for every player. When milestones switch on, they land on the player's card and in the team feed after the game.

The hockey notebook

We keep a notebook for every sport. Hockey's is a thick one.

Stat headings laid out the way a hockey sheet reads, goalies kept apart, and a goalie schedule. What's in, and what isn't.

Already on the ice

  • Skaters and goalies on separate sheets, because nobody judges a goalie on points. Tick "Played in goal" and the goalie numbers open.
  • Headings in hockey's words: Scoring, Shooting, Defence, Face-offs, Penalties, Goalkeeping. Not the generic ones from other sports.
  • Shutouts shown as SO, shooting percentage worked out from goals and shots on goal, save percentage from saves and goals against.
  • Lines built from left and right defence, wingers, a centre and a goalie, not a list of names.
  • A goalie schedule: mark your goalies once and see, game by game, who is in net and which games have nobody.
  • Team leaders for points, goals, assists and plus/minus, so the scoring race is on the page all season.

Still in the dressing room

  • Power-play and shorthanded goals for each player.
  • Goals-against average, and a shutout credited by minutes played when two goalies share a game.
  • Overtime and shootout results, and the 3-2-1-0 league points Swiss hockey uses.
  • The overtime winner and the comeback from three down, which need the order of the goals.
  • Minutes on the ice for each player.
  • The Gordie Howe hat trick, a goal, an assist and a fight. Adults only, and it needs a fights count first.

Asked in the dressing room.

Does it know a centre from a winger?

Yes. Left and right defence, centre, both wings and goalie, so the lineup reads the way you'd chalk it on the board.

We share one goalie between two teams. Is that a problem?

No. One profile covers every team a player is on, and each team's games keep their own stats.

Is save percentage worked out for us?

Yes. Enter saves and goals against; the percentage follows.

Can I see who's still to answer before the ice slot?

Yes. Each game lists who's in, who's a maybe and who's out, so the gaps on the bench are obvious.

Can I record an overtime or shootout win?

You can enter the final score. benchli doesn't mark overtime or shootouts yet, and its table counts 2 points for a win rather than the 3-2-1-0 Swiss leagues use, so check the league's own table for the official standings.
